Leaders Are Readers: 4 Must-Have Leadership Books

If you had the opportunity to study super-successful business owners, you would find one trait that almost every one of them has in common. They love books.

Leaders are readers, including Dave. In fact, he feels so strongly about the power of the written word, he requires his new team members to read five essential books in their first 90 days on the job.

Dave reads all types of non-fiction books, but his favorites deal with leadership. Here are a few of his top picks.

The Book: Good to Great
The Author: Jim Collins
Dave’s Thoughts: Good to Great is the premier business book of the last decade and is required reading for my leadership team. All of Jim Collins’ books are absolute must-reads. He’s a fantastic writer and one of the best researchers around for business writing.

The Book: QBQ: The Question Behind the Question
The Author: John Miller
Dave’s Thoughts: John Miller is one of the few people I've allowed to be a guest on The Dave Ramsey Show. QBQ is the best book on personal responsibility available today. This is required reading for my team.

The Book: Developing the Leader Within You
The Author: John Maxwell
Dave’s Thoughts: Anyone who wants practical steps on how to lead a team should read this book. John Maxwell is fantastic on leadership. I’ll read anything he puts on paper.

The Book: The E-Myth Revisted
The Author: Michael E. Gerber
Dave’s Thoughts: If you aren’t sure of the difference between working on your business and in your business, or if starting a business of any kind has ever crossed your mind, do yourself a favor and read this book.
