Do Work That Matters

You sit down at your desk and open your email. One of the subject lines immediately catches your attention: “Thank you! This changed my life!” You recognize the email address and open the note with hopeful anticipation of what you’re about to read:

“I just needed to stop and send you a quick note. Last year, you provided a Financial Peace University Membership for me and encouraged me to find a local class. I did. I’ll admit I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, and I had a lot of reservations. But I did it. I jumped in and started doing all the things. I just want you to know that I just made my last student loan payment! I’m debt-free! That’s a total of $14,198 of debt paid off in 12 months! I can’t believe I’m free! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! This changed my life!”

Heck yeah! That’s the way to start the work week! Who wouldn’t want to know the work they do makes an impact on the lives of others?

Listen, there’s a part of all of us that wants to do work that matters. We’re just wired that way. We want to make a difference in the world. We want to do meaningful work and contribute to the greater good. We want to know there’s purpose for our work. In a recent workforce survey, over 70% of those between the ages 21–36 define purpose as “doing work that has relevance to the greater community.” That same survey also revealed that 93% of workers consider “purpose” a must-have or nice-to-have from their employer.1

What’s interesting about the way that those surveyed define purpose is how it relates to what most people actually experience. A different survey reveals that 70% of American workers “aren’t engaged.”2 They aren’t engaged because they aren’t finding purpose in their work. In other words, they’re just working that dreaded J-O-B. Bleh!

That’s the great thing about working at Ramsey Solutions—all of our work is designed for the greater community. Around here, we say “we exist for those who aren’t here,” and we mean it. We see lives changed every day through our products, live events, podcasts, shows, curriculum and websites. This includes everyone who writes code, edits content, plans events, answers phones and everything in between.

Author and businesswoman Jessica Pryce-Jones, in her book Happiness at Work, identified that the average person spends 90,000 hours at work over their lifetime. You certainly don’t want to work that many hours at a job that just leaves you miserable.

That’s the great thing about Ramsey Solutions: Nobody here feels like this is just a nine-to-five J-O-B where you’re just another cog in some huge, impersonal, corporate machine doing work that sucks the life out of you. Who wants any of that? No one! Especially when that work takes up 90,000 hours of your life. You should be spending those 90,000 hours doing work you love—work that matters.

At Ramsey Solutions, we use the phrase, “work that matters,” all the time. Why? Because all the things we do here work together to bring real hope to people. Life-changing hope. In fact, that’s our mission statement: to provide biblically based, commonsense education and empowerment that give HOPE to everyone in every walk of life.

That's our mission statement: to provide biblically based, commonsense education and empowerment that give HOPE to everyone in every walk of life.

That’s what work that matters looks like. We have fun and we make a difference. We have purpose in what we do. In fact, surveys show that employees who feel a strong sense of purpose in their work are more satisfied with their job, more engaged, more productive and even more successful.3 That’s why work that matters is such a big deal.

You deserve to win at work. Our new book and assessment will show you how.

Still skeptical? Is “Work That Matters” just a sales pitch or a clever hashtag? Not around here. If you’re looking for meaningful work—something that gives your life meaning and impacts the greater community—Ramsey Solutions is where you need to be.

We asked our team members this question: “What does ‘work that matters’ mean to you?” Here’s what they had to say:

“It means getting to work on something every day that helps makes a difference in people’s lives.” — Jena, sales support

“It means I don’t work a J-O-B. It means there’s PURPOSE behind what I do every day. It means my work goes beyond these four walls and actually makes a difference in someone’s life.” — Amanda, associate podcast producer

“Doing work that has a positive impact on others and makes a difference in the world.” — Melissa, video production coordinator

“It’s work that’s tied to a mission and is not just about providing for your family—it also brings hope to others.” — Joshua, associate director of sales

“It means helping others, co-workers, customers and people just looking for hope. It means going home knowing that what you did impacted someone.”— Chris, application architect

“It’s work that allows me to engage in my life’s purpose.” — Charlie, event producer

“It’s work with a purpose. We don’t just make money for a company—we actually help people. We’re on a mission.” — Josh, recruiter

“To me, it means that I get to invest every day in a mission that I believe in. Work that matters also means that I can connect my day-to-day tasks with the bigger picture of what we offer at Ramsey Solutions: life transformation.” — Gracie, SEO writer

As you can tell, our team members are passionate about the things they work on. No matter what their role or responsibility is, every team member knows that this work has the potential to completely change someone’s life—and sometimes literally save someone’s life. Really. The things we produce bring real hope to people.

That’s meaningful work. That’s work that matters.

One of the most exciting things in life is doing work that impacts others in some way. Many of our team members have also discovered some personal rewards that come with working at Ramsey Solutions. Take a look at what some of our team members said when we asked how their work has impacted their personal lives:

“My work here has challenged me to grow in skills that I wouldn’t have otherwise had a chance to develop on my own! It has also allowed me to experience others’ ways of thinking and approaching work. As far as my personal life, I couldn’t be more proud to say that I’m part of Ramsey Solutions when I talk to people.” — Heather, designer

“Working here has added security and stability to my life. I don’t take my work home, and I’ve never really been tempted to. That’s different than other places I’ve worked. But it’s also about purpose. Dave talks about the ‘people who aren’t here,’ and helping them is what fuels my fire as a team member.” — Bob, editorial director

“This is an incredible place. It’s a community of people who truly support, challenge and encourage each other. This is a place where the team members truly care for each other and our leaders set that example. I have become a stronger and more confident person because of Ramsey Solutions.” — Hannah, finance manager

“I’ve gained innumerable friends, including many who have blessed me in big ways outside the walls of this organization. And it’s by far the best place I’ve ever worked.” — Greg, writer

“The culture has made work so much more enjoyable, and it’s very rare for me to have to work late or on weekends. I came here having worked in extremely toxic environments that were ruled by chaos and politics.” — Bill, senior director

“As a recent grad, I see many of my peers not enjoying their first job, whereas I leave work fulfilled and feeling like I made an impact.” — Madison, associate show producer

We get it. You probably feel like you want to impact the lives of others too. You want to make a difference, and you want to do work that matters. Sure, getting paid is nice, but getting paid to do something you have a passion for is even better.

Work that matters is meaningful work. If that’s what you’re looking for, we’d love to talk with you about one of our open team member positions. You can check out our current open positions here.
